Elena Delli Pizzi,  Born in Colledimacine, Abruzzo, Italy, she came with her mother Emilia Barone Delli Pizzi to join her father Antonio in Weirton, WV in 1929. She received an A.B. from NYU Washington Square College of Arts & Sciences, and an M.D. in 1945 from New York Medical College. Dedicating more than 60 years to the practice of medicine, she was well-loved by patients and colleagues. After a rotating internship and residency in Anesthesiology at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, she practiced anesthesia until 1966, when she entered residency in Psychiatry at St. Vincent's Hospital in Greenwich Village. After residency she continued as an Attending Psychiatrist at St. Vincent's, developing the Consultation Liaison Service and serving as Chief of the Day Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, and a lifelong member and first female president of the Morgagni Medical Society of New York. In 1996, she was presented with a Distinguished Service Award by the Consul General of Italy on behalf of the Italian Government.
